Qu’ont-ils ressenti ?
Quelles furent leurs impressions face à ce chef d’œuvre ?

Let me tell you about the amazing life story of a lucky survivor of the sinking of the supposedly unsinkable ship of dreams, the RMS Titanic.

« My name is Frankie Goldsmith, I was born on December 19th 1902. My parents, Frank Goldsmith and Emily Alice Brown, wanted to make a new living in America thanks to a luxurious ship, a big steamboat supposed to go to NYC. When I said it at school, everybody was jealous, I became the star or the lucky boy of the school. On April 10th, my father, my mother and I took a coach to the Titanic’s dock. My mother woke me up and when I got out of the car, I saw the loveliest and most gigantic liner of my life. She was red, black and white. Hundreds and hundreds of loud people were gazing up at the Titanic. When I boarded, I was so surprised: the lights, the smell of fresh paint… «Breathtaking» I said in my head. My parents and I boarded as 3rd class passengers. I remembered my mother explained the three different classes : the wealthy in the first class, the middle class in the second class and our class, the third class. Onboard, I made a new friend from the first class; his name was Tom. He told me that the 1st class had a spacious and luxurious promenade deck, an awesome swimming pool, a gymnasium, a huge  library, a giant staircase and electric elevators ! Electric elevators ! So modern and state-of-the-art. Besides, my dad told me 2200 passengers were on the unsinkable ship of dreams.

Four days later, on the April 14th, captain Edward Smith, pushed by Bruce Ismay the president of the White Star Line, agreed to go faster to impress the press. I was chatting with Tom on deck when Tom saw a white thing on the horizon. Suddenly, a man screamed at the top of his lungs «iceberg, sir, right ahead». The Titanic was steaming way too fast and turned too late. At 11:40 p.m, the Titanic crashed into the iceberg. Apparently, the iceberg had pierced the front of the boat. I don’t really understand all of that. I just knew I was scared. When this was confirmed, everyone ran to get in a lifeboat but security said «women and children first». They sent messages to help us (CQD). There was music but everyone was scared and horrified. Sadly, there was only 20 lifeboat for 2200 people. They didn’t add anymore because it was an ugly waste of space on the promenade deck, Tom said. Well, so much for that I remembered saying to myself. My mother and I went in a lifeboat but my father stayed on the Titanic. He kept saying « don’t worry lad, I’ll take the next one »… But I knew.

On April 15th at 00:18 a.m, the Titanic and my father sank deeply and slowly in the freezing cold waters of the Atlantic ocean. Unfortunately, the rescuing ship named «The Carpathia» arrived too late and only 700 of us survived.

In 1912, the ship of dreams on her way to NYC crashed into an iceberg in the cold waters of the Atlantic Ocean. Let us tell you about the fabulous life story of a fortunate passenger of the sinking of the supposedly unsinkable Queen of the ocean, the RMS Titanic.

Eva Hart was born in 1905. She was seven years old when she boarded the Titanic. Indeed, from 1820 to 1920, lots of immigrants from Europe went to America to start a new life. In 1912, some British families chose to travel on the Titanic. She travelled with her parents as a middle class passenger to emigrate to Canada.

Eva‘s testimony: “I was only seven years old but this night will ever stay in my mind forever. So this was like every evening, it was 8:00 pm I had finished my dinner and I went to the party organized by my father with his 2nd class’s friends. At 10:30 pm my mother and I, went to the bedroom. A few moments later surprisingly we were waken up by a horrible bump. However we thought that was quite ordinary in the ocean. Then, the crew brought life jackets. I didn’t understand what happened. So we went outside. I saw bits of ice everywhere on the liner. People ran and screamed “we’re gonna die, the ship’s gonna sink !” We were walking when we were fiercely grasped by a crew member to get in the lifeboats. I saw a good friend of my father’s and I told him « may you tell my father not to worry, we are safe as we boarded a lifeboat. We will met again« . He said with a little smile “yes no problem, dear.” I understood later, he wouldn’t get me worried. I saw the Titanic sink in front of my bewildered eyes. It was horrible… everybody jumped in the ocean. I said to my mom “daddy must be in a lifeboat, mustn’t he ?” The woman next to me said “The president of the white star line cancelled half the lifeboats for a better promenade deck so the man probably didn’t survive !” Four days later the Carpathia arrived, only 700 people didn’t died that night.
The only part of the travel I want to rebember was the boarding of the queen of the ocean. This boat was the most beautiful and surprising thing I had ever seen. It was however by best memory. »

Let me tell you about the amazing life story of a fortunate survivor of the sinking of the supposedly unsinkable ship of dreams, the RMS Titanic.

From 1820 to 1920, lots of immigrants from Europe went to America to start a new life. In 1912 some British families chose to travel on the Titanic like our lucky survivor, Eva Hart. She boarded the Titanic because her family wanted emigrate to Canada. Out of the 2200 passengers and crew, she wasn’t the only one. The ship was supposed to leave Southampton and to go to America, in New-York but she sank 4 days after her departure.

Eva was 7 seven years old when she boarded on The Titanic on April 10th. For her, it must have been awful because the Titanic was a luxury ship. There were 4 electric elevators, a swimming-pool, a gymnasium, a Turkish bath and librairies. Eva was a 2nd-class passenger so she had not access at all privileges but she had a little luxury bedroom. Every day, she was more and more amazed, in awe and surprised with this huge and luxurious ship. But, after only 4 amazing days, on April 14th at 11:40pm, she heard Frederick Fleet to ring the ship bell 3 times to alert the bridge. An iceberg was on the way of the Titanic. She felt it when the ship of dreams hit the iceberg. Her parents Ether and Benjamin felt very scared but they probably think that it was nothing, like other passengers. After all, she was « unsinkable » wasn’t she ? Few minutes after, the crew knocked at their door to tell their to put their safety jacket. The radio operator telegraphed nearby ships for help : “CQD-SOS from MGY. We have struck an iceberg. Sinking fast. Come to our assistance.”

Eva and her parents were forced to leave their room and to go to the front of the Titanic. There were only 20 lifeboats onboard because the president of the White Star Line, Bruce Ismay, said that it was an ugly waste of space on the first class promenade deck. Fortunately, Eva and her mother had a lifeboat but sadly, her father didn’t have one and he died in the tragedy. It must have been terrifying, horrifying and drdeadful for her and her mother.

A smaller liner named “Carparhia” arrived too late to save all the passengers. She only rescued 700 people. After this tragedy, Eva and her mother arrived in America and Eva died in 1996.

Well, let me tell you about the amazing life story of a lucky survivor of the sinking of the supposedly unsinkable ship of dreams, the RMS Titanic !

But first, let me describe the unsinkable ship of dreams. The Titanic was a huge luxurious ship that sailed at the beginning of the 20th century. She was a gigantic steamboat, indeed she was called « The Queen of the oceans » and 2200 passengers divided into 4 classes boarded le liner : the crew – obviously – the wealthy, the middle class and the poor 3rd class. The Titanic had several facilities like an indoor swimming pool as well as a Turkish bath. The Titanic left Southampton on April 10th 1912 to go to the promised land : America. Eva Hart, the lucky survivor, boarded as a 2nd class passenger. She was born in 1905 and died in 1996, her parents were called Ether and Benjamin Hart. They used to live in Ilford, Essex in England, that’s why they boarded on the Titanic, indeed they wanted to flee and live with better life conditions in Canada.

Moving on to the journey, Eva and all the passengers were having an amazing voyage on the Titanic, it must have been amazing and luxurious ! Four days after the departure, in the middle of a peaceful night at 11.40pm, lookout Frederick Fleet rang the ship’s bell three times to warn the bridge. « Iceberg sir, right ahead ! ». Unfortunately, it was too late. The Titanic hit the iceberg and red lights were flickering. Eva went to the promenade deck to find lifeboats but everyone had the same idea. Actually there were only 20 lifeboats because the White Star Line president said : « It’s a waste of space for the promenade deck ! This ship is unsinkable ! » So I assume Eva must have been terrified ! But luckily for her, all the passengers who were in front of her screamed : « Women and children first ! » Thanks to the gentlemen Eva and her mom boarded a lifeboat with several people but her dad unfortunately stayed on the Titanic…

Two hours after the crash, the Titanic sank into the cold waters of the Atlantic ocean. There were only 700 survivors including Eva and her mom. On the lifeboat, I suppose Eva was crying her dad, she must have been feeling awful. Fortunately for the survivors, a steamboat called the Carapatia recieved the CDQ ; SOS telegram. The 700 passengers rescued by the Carapatia were traumatised yet alive and Eva went on with her life and I imagine she married and had kids.

Let me talk about the fabulous life story of a fortunate passenger of the sinking of the supposedly unsinkable ship of dreams, the RMS Titanic.

The Titanic was supposed to go to New York city, where the passengers expected to start a new life in the new world that was the USA. In fact from 1820 to 1920 lots of immigrants from Europe went to America to start a new life. In 1912, some British families chose to travel on the Titanic. She was called the « ship of dreams » given that at that time she was the most gigantic, luxurious ship known to Humankind. Indeed she had a lot of facilities like : a promenade deck (which caused more than half of the passengers to die), an indoor swimming pool, a Turkish bath, a library, four electric elevators, a gymnasium, a smoking room and a grand staircase. As I said before, the promenade deck was a huge problem when the Titanic sank. In fact Bruce Ismay, the president of the White star line, the company who built the Titanic, refused to put more lifeboats on the deck given that he though it was an ugly waste of space. And that’s how, she ended up with only 20 lifeboats for 2200 passengers.

Moving to Frankie Goldsmith’s life story. He was ten years old when the majestic « ship of dreams » sank deeply into the cold waters of the Atlantic Ocean. Eventough he was a third class passenger, the gigantic steamboat was still very luxurious. On April the 10th 1912 the ship left Southampton. Before boarding the ship the third class passengers had to get their hair checked for lice. Frankie would never forget the first time he saw the unsinkable queen of the oceans. She was majestic, she had four funnels, and the deck was huge. He was in awe, the Titanic was beautiful. Of course, the cabins were rather small yet very comfortable.

The fourth day after they left the port of departure, was quite uneventful. Frankie was playing with other kids on board, when his mother called him, it was time to go to bed. In the middle of the night though, he was woken by a huge crashing sound. The Titanic had hit the infamous iceberg on April the 14th at 11.40 pm.

The captain made two huge mistakes that night, the first one was trying to go around the iceberg instead of crashing directly into it, which caused the entire side of the Titanic to rip and fill all the compartments that were supposed to contain the water in case there was a problem. The second mistake the captain made was when he sent the distress signal. Instead of sending CQD which means COME QUICK DANGER, he sent the modern signal SOS (SAVE OUR SOULS) that wasn’t very well known, nor used. As the nearby ships didn’t understand the message they couldn’t come and save more passengers.

After the crash everyone panicked at once. There was a lot of screaming and pushing and running around. All the passengers wanted to board the lifeboats. The crew hadn’t been trained properly should the Titanic sink – indeed she was supposed to be unsinkable. The crew had to abide by the « Ladies and Children first » protocol, and the first class passengers had to go first. The crew didn’t know how many people could actually fit in one lifeboat, so in some they only boarded 12 people whereas the boats could fit 60 adult men.

Frankie was doomed to wait as the first and second class boarded the lifeboats as the unsinkable ship of dreams unfortunately sank deeply into the cold waters of the Atlantic ocean. Frankie was terrified, he had boarded the Titanic to find a new life, instead he watched people lose theirs. Everyone was running and screaming, his mother was crying, Frankie was to shocked to do anything, so he just watched the orchestra playing, as some passengers jumped into the cold waters.

When his turn finally came, his mother carried him to the lifeboats. The crew were lowering the boat when several people tried to jump into the boat. They were so desperate, it was horrible to watch. When they finally reach the waters, Frankie looked back at the Titanic, the ship was supposed to take him to the Promised Land as she broke in two. They waited for hours, watched the Titanic sink and people drown, 18 minutes after midnight they saw the last part of the majestic ship of dreams go down into the ocean.

The Carpathia arrived four hours later, everyone was crying silently. When the Carpathia arrived to New York city there was a hoard of people waiting for the return of the 700 passengers who survived the tragedy. Just like the day they left, everyone was looking at them, but this time there weren’t any smiles on their faces… just sad and pity looks.

Frankie had finally arrived to the new land, forever changed.

Lucie

In 1912, some British families chose to travel onboard the Titanic. Frankie Goldsmith was a child at that time. With his mother, Emilie Alice Brown, they wanted go to America because, obviously, they were very poor and they wanted to change their lifestyle.

Frankie was born on December 19th 1902 in Emilie’s own hometown, Strout, Kent. He must have been quite amazed looking up at the Titanic, because she was a huge liner and she was gigantic. He had never seen anything like that. Indeed, her nickname was the « ship of dreams » because the Titanic had a promenade deck, electric elevators, a swimming pool, a Turkish bath, a gymnasium, a smoking room, a library, a grand shaircase… she was very luxurious!

Unfortunately, Frankie couldn’t really enjoy any White Star Line luxury because he had a 3rd class ticket, and was accommodated with his mother in a narrow cabin below deck. The day of the departure, there were many people, the Titanic was very famous. April 10th 1912, she left Southampton to go to America, New York. There was the wealthy (1st class), the middle class (2nd class), and the poor (3rd class). Onboard, there were 2200 passengers and crew among which the president of the White Star Line, Bruce Ismay. He didn’t want forty lifeboats because he thought it was an ugly waste of space on the promenade deck.

I suppose the mother of Frankie must have been very excited either way. This ship was the promise of aa new life with her son.

Moving on to the sinking. In the peaceful night of April 14th, at 11:40 pm, the Titanic hit an iceberg. Frederick Fleet rang the ship’s bell three times to alert the bridge and radio operators telegraphed nearby ships for help « CQD-SOS ». Frankie was very lucky because though first, the first class was ushered into the lifeboats, he quickly boarded with his mother thanks to the « women and the children first » protocol. The rest is history. The titanic broke in two and the there were only 700 survivors.

Sadly, at 00:18, the Titanic sank deeply into the cold waters of the Atlantic Ocean. I guess Frankie was terrified and very scared. Four hours after, the rescuing ship, the Carpathia arrived to save the few survivors. Frankie survived with his mother.

Zia

From 1820 to 1920, lots of immigrants from Europe went to America to start a new life. In 1912, some British families chose to travel to the Titanic.

First, let us talk about the «ship of dreams». Her designer was Alexandre Carlisle – Bruce Ismay was the president of White Star Line. She was a luxurious, innovative and supposedly «unsinkable» ship. Her maiden voyage started on April, 10th 1912. She was supposed to go to New York City, America. She left Southampton with 2 200 crew and passengers in complete and total awe, onboard. Let us now tell you about the passengers’ classes. There were 3 different classes. First, the 3rd class who were usually poor people. After, the second class who were the middle class. Finally the first class passengers who were the wealthy people : most of them were from the aristocracy.

Now, let us you you about the fantastic life story of a second class passenger named Eva Hart who survived the sinking of the supposedly unsinkable «Queen of the ocean», the RMS Titanic. Eva Hart was born in 1905 of Ether and Benjamin Hart. During the travel she was a seven-year-old girl. She left Ilford (a town in England) with her parents who wanted to emmigrate to Canada because America was a new continent where you could rise from rags to riches.

Now, moving on to Eva’s feelings onboard the fabulous steamboat. As we mentioned before, the Titanic was very innovative for that time. She was very luxurious, she had 4 electrics elevators, a swimming pool, a gymnasium, a Turkish bath and libraries. She was the first liner who was having all these things. Eva was certainly as flabbergasted when she first saw the Titanic as during the first three days of the voyage.

Only these first three days though… because at 11:40pm in the middle of the 3rd peaceful night, the «ship of dreams» hit an iceberg… For that point on, everyone started to panic. The anguish started to rise in every passenger. Eva must have probably been terrified by the situation: people were screaming and running everywhere. The passengers only had two hours to leave the «unsinkable» boat before she sank deeply into the cold waters of the Atlantic Ocean. Eva and her mother could board a lifeboat but, unfortunately, not her father who died in the tragedy.

Eva must have been certainly traumatised for all her life like the 700 others survivors.

Emma & Lilou

Let me talk about the fabulous life story of a fortunate passengers of the supossedly unsinkable ship of dreams, the R.M.S Titanic.

First of all, at the beginning of the 20th century, the Titanic was the most majestic and biggest ship – at that time, she was both modern ship and huge. She was built by the White Star Line in 1911. She was a luxurious ship with a promenade deck, electric elevators, a swimming pool, a library and a Turkish bath. Among other things, of course. To accomodate the passengers, there were 3 differents types of bedroom, according to their wealth: – beautifully furnished state rooms for the 1st class passengers – comfortable rooms for the 2nd class passengers – narrow cabins for the 3rd class passengers. The 1st class passengers were at the top of the ship, the 2nd class were in the middle and the 3rd class were at the bottom.

The Titanic left Southampton and were supposed to go to New York. The passengers wanted to go to America because America was a land of prosperity and they considered America like a new world where you could rise from rags to riches. So she left Southampton on April 10th 1912 – the passengers were very excited to go to New York ! Just like Frankie’s family…

Speaking of, moving on to a British survivor of the tragedy, Frankie Goldsmith. Frankie was born on December 19th, 1902 in Strout, Kent in England and died in 1982. He was onboard on the Titanic to make a new living in America and he was a 3rd class passenger so he was accommodated at the bottom of the ship.

Everything was fine until April 14th at 11:40 p.m. The Titanic hit an iceberg… Yet, the captain of the ship told the crew to stop the ship but because of her speed, the ship didn’t stop on time. So she hit the iceberg on the right side. Alexander Carlisle designed the ship as such : there were 16 compartiments out of which 5 could be flooded without any rish of dammage. But unfortunately, the iceberg hit the 16 compartiments of the ship. Panic began onboard. Frankie was amazed by the ship and didn’t understand how the ship could sink into the cold waters of the Atlantic Ocean.

The crew of the ship handed out life-jackets to everyone onboard, from the 1st class to the 3rd class passengers. Everyone started to panic. To save as many passengers as could be, the lifeboats were therefore used. But there were only 20 lifeboats instead of 40, because the designer of the ship and the president of the White Star Line didn’t agree : the president found too many lifeboats on the ship would be an ugly waste of space on the promenade deck… 60 passengers could fit in each lifeboats but as the crew was not trained, they only boarded 12 people. Obviously, the protocol “Ladies and children first” was followed. So nearly all 1st class women and children were saved. For the 3rd class though, there were only very few survivors. The ship took 2 hours to sink. The crew sent a SOS but nobody understood the distress call because that code was too recent at that time.

A ship called The Campatia arrived at 2:55 a.m, 3,15 hours after the ship sank ! So it was too late and a lot of people died in the tragedy.

Despite the tragedy, Frankie Golsmith was rescued with his mother and he got married in 1920. He died of a natural causes in 1982.

Lina

Let me tell you about the amazing life story of a lucky survivor of the sinking of the supposedly unsinkable ship of dreams, the RMS Titanic.

At the beginning of the 20th century an unfortunate tragedy hapenned in the Atlantic Ocean. Eva Hart is a rare passager who survived this tragedy along with only 700 passagers. Her father died in the tragedy. But, what really happened ?

The day is April 10th and the RMS Titanic was in her port of departure, Southampton : 2200 passagers boarded on the ship. The titanic was both a liner and a steamboat. They were really excited about going to New York, but they were quite sad because they had to leave Southampton behind. Eva Hart, born in 1905 and died in 1996, is a survivor of the tagedy with her parents, Ether and Benjamin Hart. They boarded as 2nd class passagers. Indeed, onboard there were 3 classes : the 1st class which was the best class for wealthy people ; the 2nd class was for the middle class and the 3rd class for the poor people.

Onboard the Titanic, there were a lot of incredible facilities because she was a luxury ship ! There was a promenade deck, electric elevators, a swimming pool, a Turkish bath, a gymnasium, a smocking room, a library, a grand staircase. That’s why she was quickly called « the ship of dreams ».

The first four days went smoothly. But on the 4th night, it was 11:00 p.m… The Titanic was steaming on the Atlantic Ocean, a day away from New York, when the captain saw an iceberg. He asked the crew to stop the machines in order to avoid the iceberg. The captain took command of the ship of dreams. He activated all the alarms in the engine rooms. He tried to slow the ship as much as possible to save the unsinkable and the 2200 passagers onboard. Well, that’s what they believed. That’s what he intended to do…

What he didn’t know was that down in the engine rooms the compartments were filling up with cold water of the Atlantic Ocean. But the captain didn’t know it at all, he believed he had saved the liner and the passagers. In two short hours the Titanic would sink to the bottom of the cold water of the Atlantic.

About Eva, she went sleeping in her bedroom when she heard an alarm. It sent shivers down her spine. The security asked to everybody to put their life jackets on. Eva and her parents went up on the deck of the boat to board one of the lifeboats, but the ladies and children of the 1st class had to board on lifeboats first ; after went the ladies and children of the 2nd class. The problem was the staff was not properly trained and only boarded 12 persons on each lifeboat, while they could welcome 60 persons ! The captain asked the crew to put more people in the lifeboats, because there were only 20 and could save only a quater of the liner.

Eva waited patiently to get on a lifeboat. After 1 hour, the liner started to sink step by sted on the Atlantic. When her turn finally came, Eva got into a lifeboat with her mother but her father had to stay onboard because it was the protocol. Thousands of people fell in the water, and died because of the freezing water.

Four hours after, a small liner came and saved Eva and her mother along with the other lucky survivors. Two weeks after the tragedy Eva and her mother learnt his father died in the tragedy.

Aïna

Let me tell you about the amazing life story of a lucky survivor off supposedly unsinkable ship of dreams, the RMS Titanic.

You may or may not know the story of the Titanic so allow me to explain:

Let’s begin with her departure. On April 10th 1912 a new ship became the most popular and the biggest ship ever made. The RMS Titanic was supposed to go to NYC, like Frankie GOLDSMITH a 10-year-old little boy and his parent, to make a new life living America.

But, at the port of the departure in Southampton, when Frankie saw the ship, he was so surprised – like many people – she appeared even bigger than the newpapers talked about. « The ship of dreams » could accommodate 2200 passengers on her board. On the Titanic there were 3 different classes : the first class had big state rooms with an private promenade deck : after the 2nd class had smaller rooms than the rich people ; to finish the 3rd class had the smallest cabins of the Titanic. Frankie and his parents were in the 3rd class. No 3rd passenger was allowed to eat in any of the three luxurious restaurants onboard, or to swim in the sea-water pool, or even to read a book in the library. During the travel, Frankie could run up on deck, though. What fun it was !

The voyage was uneventful but, on pril 14th at 11:40 pm, the look-out named Frederic FLEET, called both captain SMITH and president Bruce ISMAY and said <<Iceberg!>>. The ship’s engines stopped, the crew tried to turn around the iceberg, yet a big noise came with the crash. Everyone started to panic. The five compartiments of the ship were cut open by the iceberg. The passengers had aproximately 2 hours to escape a nearly certain death. There was a problem : there were only 20 lifeboat for 2200 passengers. The security first allowed ladies an children to board ccording to their social class while the radio operators tried to send <<S.O.S.>> calls to the others ships around the Titanic. The closest boat was 4 hours away of the most popular crash in the world.
Men were rescued last because at the beginning of the 20th century that was the proper thing to do. Gentlemen had to let women and children in first, even if it meant death. Either way, you had little chance to survive as the waters started to flood the ship. The screams of the children along with the freezing weather must have make the whole scene horrible.

The ship broke in two and sank in the Atlantic ocean.

Little Frankie and his mother were rescued but his father  didn’t survive like the other 1500 other unlucky passengers, the ship sank on April 15th at 00:18 am in the cold atlantic waters. The Carpathia arrived at 4:10 am to rescue the freezing survivors.

So now you know the history of the « the Queen of the Oceans ».

Théo

Let me tell you about the fabulous lifestory of a fortunate passenger of the sinking of the supposedly ship of dreams, the R.M.S Titanic. From 1820 to 1920, lots of immigrants from Europe went to America to start a new life. In 1912, some British families chose to travel on the Titanic, Eva Hart and her family were on this liner.

First of all, let me talk about the fabulous story of the « ship of dreams. » First on the ship there were 3 different classes. The first-class passengers were accommodated at the top of the ship. The second class was accommodated in the middle of the Titanic and, to finish the third class, the poorest class, was at the bottom of the Titanic.

Now, let me present the tiny bedroom of the 3rd classes, there were bunk beds and a washbowl. For the first class, it was very different, their bedrooms were gigantic !! This liner was the most luxurious steamboat at that time. On board she had four electric elevators, a swimming-pool, a gymnasium, a Turkish bath and libraries. There were twenty lifeboats instead of 40. They were designed for 60 passengers but during the panic only 20 passengers boarded the lifeboats.

The ship left Southampton in England on April 10th, 1912 with 2,200 passengers on board with a crew. She paused at Queenstown, Ireland to set off again for New-York. On April 14th, at 11:40 pm the ship hit an iceberg. The crew sent an SOS to nearby boats to be rescued but the Carpathia arrived too late. She only rescued 700 people. The Titanic sank at 12:18 am.

Now you know more about the story of the tragedy, let’s look at the surprising story of Eva Hart. When she boarded the Titanic she was only 7 years old so she was born in 1905 and she died in 1996 at 91 years old. Her parents were Ether and Benjamin Hart. Her father died in the tragedy, I may be wrong, but I guess Ether is a survivor like Eva. I’m not certain but I think Benjamin Hart died because the protocol was « Children and ladies first » so their poor father died in the sinking. Eva’s family didn’t have a lot of money, so they wanted to go on this journey to emigrate to Canada to change their lifestyle ans rise to rogs to riches. She arrived in New-York a week later.

I think she wen on to have a normal life, though traumatized.

Clarisse

Well, let me talk about the fabulous life story of a fortunate passenger of the sinking of the supposedly unsinkable ship of dreams, the RMS Titanic: she was a very luxury ship, with a promenade deck, electric elevators, swimming pool, gymnasium and many others facilities. It must have been amazing ! She left Southampton on April 10th 1912. From 1820 to 1920, lots of immigrants from Europe went to America to start a new life. That’s why, in 1912, some British families like Frankie Goldsmith’s chose to travel on the Titanic. Indeed, she was supposed to go to New York City, USA.

Everyone knows her story : she is famous for her sinking and her crash with an iceberg : after she hit the iceberg, everyone started to panic ! Indeed, Bruce Ismay, the president of the White Star Line company, wouldn’t agree on the exact number of lifeboats required to rescue everyone, because «they were an ugly waste of space on the promenade deck.» That’s why, at 00:18 am, when the «ship of dreams» sank deeply into the Atlantic ocean, so many people died.

So, moving on to Frankie Goldsmith, a survivor of the so-called «unsinkable» who unfortunately sank. He was born on December 19th, in 1902 in the town of Strout, in Kent in England. When he was nine years old, he boarded the «Queen of the Ocean» with his parents, Emily Alice Brown and Frankie Goldsmith in a 3rd class cabin. For him, it must have been incredible given that, the cabins were very luxury for them, even the 3rd class !

Yet, he survived the sinking, on April 15th, eighteen minutes after midnight. Thereby, he boarded a lifeboat, contrary to many passengers, who died in the cold waters of the Atlantic Ocean, after the crash with the iceberg, at 11:40 pm. Fortunately, the protocol «Ladies and childrens first» was in place or Frankie Goldsmith and many passengers would have sunk with the «ship of dreams.»

I may be wrong but I suppose he felt many emotions. First, he must certainly have been horrified: only 20 lifeboats for 2,200 passengers, and the staff only authorised 12 passengers by lifeboat. Next, he would probably felt secure, as he boarded a lifeboat and  was eventually rescued by the Carpathia, along with his mother. His father, unfortunately, might have died in the tragedy. Frankie Goldsmith got back to New York with his mother, one week later.

He passed away of natural causes in 1982, at 80 years old, and 3 sons in his life. The Titanic would always stay in his memory, like every survivor and people from all over the world.

Let me talk about the fabulous life story of a fortunate passenger of the sinking of the supposedly unsinkable ship of dreams, the RMS Titanic. The Titanic left Southampton on April 10th, 1912 for New York. A lot of people, more precisely lots of immigrants from Europe, went to America to start a new life, from 1820 to 1920. She was a luxury ship because there was a library, a smoking room, a swimming-pool…

There were 2220 people onboard (passengers and crew) unfortunately only 700 people were rescued. A lot of passengers died because she had only 20 lifeboats for 2220 people ! Bruce Ismay, the president of the White Star Line didn’t agree with the designer Alexander Carlisle. Indeed 40 lifeboaths were planned onboard. The president of the White Star Line didn’t agree because he considered it was an ugly waste of space on the promenade desk. Only 700 people were then rescued thanks to a steamboat the Carpathia.

First of all, let me talk about Frankie Goldsmith a survivor of this tragedy. He was a little boy from the 3rd class and the Titanic he saw was not that luxurious. The luxury rooms were for a first-class passenger, the wealthy. Frankie was born on December 19th 1902 at Strout, Kent in England. He wanted to have a new life in America with his mother Emily Alice Brown.

They had a chance to survive because the crew had to respect a protocol the « childrens and ladies first »… yet his poor father died in the tragedy. Imagine he must have been very sad. Indeed, the RMS Titanic hit an iceberg on April 14th at 11:40 pm. The lookout Frederick Fleet saw this iceberg. He shouted « Iceberg, sir, right ahead ! » But it was too late : she crashed into the iceberg. Sadly, the « unsinkable » sank into the cold waters of the Atlantic Ocean on April 15th, eighteen minutes after midnight. I cannot imagine the feeling of the cold waters it must have been horrible. The panic in his eyes, the fear of death.

The Carpathia arrived at 4:30 pm later after the crash. He died of natural causes in 1982 after having enjoyed marital life, a father of 3 sons. This tragedy remained in his head all his life.

Let me tell you about the fabulous life story of a fortunate passenger of the sinking of the supposedly unsinkable ship of dreams, the RMS Titanic.

First, let me introduce to you what the Titanic is. She was a luxurious steamboat built in Ireland in 1911. Important thing to know: there were only 20 lifeboats onboard instead of 40 because the president of the White Star Line Bruce Ismay, didn’t agree with the designer Alexander Carlisle and thought it was an ugly waste of space.

From 1820 to 1920, lots of immigrants from Europe went to America to start a new life. In 1912, some British families chose to travel on the Titanic. Like in all ships at that time, passengers were separated in 3 classes : the first class, the second class and the third class. The third class was obviously the least luxurious, as it was for poor people. But actually the facilites were quite an upgrade from how they were living back home.

In fact, the story that I’m about to tell is about a third class passenger, his name was Frankie Goldsmith. First of all, Frankie was a British boy who was only 14 years old when the tragedy happened. He travelled with his parents but unfortunately, his dad drowned on April 15th 1912 into the cold waters of the Atlantic Ocean along with the supposedly unsinkable Titanic, at 11:40pm. Thankfully, his mom survived with him. Like most of passengers, they were crossing the Atlantic to start a new life in America.

Frankie died at 80 years old in 1982, 70 years after the sinking of the « queen of the oceans ». He was and he will stay one of the only 700 passengers saved at the sinking of the legendary ship of dreams Titanic. The Carpathia was the steamboat who rescued those poor souls but she would have saved more people if she had arrived much earlier.
The testimonies of Frankie and the rest of the survivors are still poignant. We can see how traumatizing that tragedy must have been for them and how affected they were. It must have been a huge shock for them.

Let me tell you about the amazing life story of a lucky survivor of the sinking of the supposedly unsinkable ship of dreams, the RMS Titanic.

Frankie Goldsmith was a 3rd class passenger onboard the Titanic. The Titanic was built in 1911. She was very famous given that she was both a very big ship, and a very luxurious liner but also given that she was supposedly unsinkable.

Her nickname was “the ship of dreams” because she looked perfect. Actually from 1820 to 1920, lots of immigrants from Europe went to America to start a new life, and fulfill their dreams. In 1912, some British among which, Frankie Goldsmith’s parents chose to travel on the Titanic. Frankie was born on December 19th. She decided to travel on that ship given that she wanted make a new living in America. She boarded the Titanic as a poor passenger with her husband and her 3 sons. Onboard there were 2200 passenger of several classes: the rich, the middle class and the poor. There were a promenade deck, electric elevators, a smoking room, a library, a grand straicase… She was just amazing.

Frankie and his family, slept in a cabine, way too small. Maybe they felt oppressed. On the Titanic there were only 20 lifeboats for 2200 passengers… A lifeboat could carry 60 people. Besides there could have beenb 40 lifeboats but apparently it was ugly and Bruce Ismay wanted more space on the promende deck. Indeed Alexander Carlisle had designed the ship to carry 40 lifeboats…

Frankie’s mum would walk on the promenade deck every day, it was like a routine. With her family she ate in a room like a canteen. Unfortunately, the infamous day arrived… The Titanic was steaming on the sea and it ws both freezing cold and foggy. The captain understood that is was more difficult to see an iceberg. And some minutes later, he saw an iceberg at last minute. There were some options: either he tried to go around the iceberg, either he cut the Titanic’s engine or he backed up. But she was too fast and the iceberg was too near. It was obvious that the « unsinkable » ship would crash into the iceberg and sink. The captain decided anyway to try and go around the iceberg but she crashed into it and water started to flood in. If 5 compartments were filled with water, the Titanic could stay afloat. But it was more thanf 5 compartments.

When the Titanic hit the iceberg, the passengers asked what had happened. Some passengers among, which Frankie, saw the ice on the ship. Frankie’s mum understood that the ship hit an iceberg. She was so very scared, terrified. She had cried and thought she was going to die. The captain, who was very anxious decided to warn the crew and the passengers of the situation.

Indeed, the passengers were not worried so they went on with their evening as if nothing had happened. But they saw some people were actually worried and eventually they went outside and saw the ice on the steamboat. Everybody was terrified at the idea of dying. The crew decided to get people into lifeboats. The crew called “children and women first.” In the lifeboats, the crew put 12 people instead of 60 because they were scared for the weight.

The Titanic sank little by little and the all the women and children were not yet safe onboard a lifeboat. The men knew they would not survive… Frankie and his family were stuck in an electric elevator because of the water. They tried to look for a key or a solution. His father tried to break the door of the elevator. After 5 minutes, they successed to open the door and swam to the promenade deck where the lifeboats were. Sadly, his father died given that he had to come last.

Frankie, his mother and his sibblings went up to the lifeboats and they waited for the rescuing ship to arrive. Unfortunately, his siblings died because of the cold. Frankie and his mother were rescued 1 hour later.

That day remained engraved in their memory forever.

Let me tell about the amazing lifestory of a fortunate survivor of the sinking of the supposedly « unsinkable ship of dreams », the RMS Titanic.

First of all, from 1820 to 1920, lots of immigrants from Europe wanted to steam to America to start and new life. In 1912, some British families chose to travel on the Titanic. The ship left Southampton, in England, on April 10th, 1912 for New York.

The Titanic was nicknamed « the ship of dreams » because she was a luxurious boat. There were elevators, a swimming pool, Turkish baths, a library, a gymnasium. The bedrooms were luxurious in 1st class. On April 14th, at 11:40pm, the ship hit an iceberg. The crew sent SOS to be rescued but the Carpathia arrived too late. She only rescued 700 people among the Titanic’s 2,200 passagers. There were only twenty lifeboats and some were not full. The Titanic sank at 12:18pm and so 1500 unfortunate people died tragically.

On the first hand, I think Frankie and his mother wanted a better life away from Europe for they were poor and lived, I suppose, modestly. Maybe his father died in the tragedy, or not, I don’t know. Frankie was 10 years old at the tragedy and it must have been horrible for him because, at first, he was amazed by the luxurious ship and by here gigantic size. There were three class : 1st for rich, 2nd for the middle class and 3rd for the poor, Frankie and with his mother were in the 3rd class.

On the other hand, onboard, the ship was luxurious ; there were a promenade deck, electric elevators, a swimming pool, a gymnasium, a Turkish bath and libraries. At that time, the RMS Titanic was very gigantic. Frankie Goldsmith was ten years old when tragedy met his fate, it must have been horrible and he must have been terrified !
